Rights Respecting Schools Award

We were awarded Silver: Rights Aware accreditation of UNICEF's
Rights Respecting Schools Award in June 2021. It is granted by
UNICEF to schools that show good progress towards embedding
children’s rights in the school’s policy, practice and ethos. The award
is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination
and participation.

This Silver: Rights Aware accreditation is valid for three years.

Achieving Silver: Rights means we have evidenced that:

  • We are explicitly embedding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in our policy, practice and culture.
  • We are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout your school community.
  • We are beginning to see ourselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.

In school we learn about the UNCRC by:

  1. Teaching and Learning about rights: through the curriculum, assemblies, IDL topics, focus days/weeks and wall displays.
  2. Teaching and Learning through rights: by modelling rights respecting language and attitudes, and making strategic decisions that involve all of us.
  3. Being ambassadors for the rights of others: developing as rights respecting citizens.

We are now working towards accreditation at Gold: Rights Respecting by June 2024.
