We are working towards becoming an accredited Reading School. This is a programme run by the Scottish Book Trust for schools that are committed to building a reading culture for their learners.

Research proves that reading for pleasure is central in supporting equity and wellbeing, positively impacting learners' attainment across the curriculum, critical thinking, creativityempathy and resilience.

Our Reading Schools Leadership Group are working hard to share their love of reading with the rest of the school and have created an action plan to achieve Core Level of the award.  Some of the new activities introduced this session include:

  • Engaging with our families to promote reading for pleasure by hosting P1 Bookbug events as well as inviting P2 and P3 parents/carers to attend Read, Write, Count afternoons with their children
  • Featuring ‘Books in the Spotlight’ at assembly where children have the opportunity to recommend a favourite book to their peers
  • The introduction of our Baljaffray Mobile Library which is timetabled to visit each class to provide a variety of reading material to read for pleasure. Many of the children have already chosen to take one of the library books home which is very encouraging.
